I know I am supposed to be a grown up and all, but my favorite band broke up yesterday, and I feel like a very close family member died. I just want to go back to the day before yesterday when I thought they were making progress on a new album and that before to long I would get to see them live again. Their work was some of the most inspiring art I have ever been exposed to, and I have a degree in the arts. I didn’t love them because they were cute, or because they were cool, I loved them because they made truly unique and powerful art. They were what rockstars are supposed to be: beacons to the world that you are totally able to make up your own rules and live out loud, symbols of the idea that expression matters and that each person’s story is valuable. That art, music, and culture can be so much more than it often is. That creativity can be the birth of whole new universes. They have changed my life forever. RIP My Chemical Romance.
